Bush to run in 2008?
By Florida Political News Editor - Conservative Leaders urged Former Governor Jeb Bush on his recent trip to Washington to reconsider his decision to not seek the Presidency in 2008. The leaders who courted Bush are concerned about the sincerity of Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's conversion to social conservatism and feel Sen. Sam Brownback is both too weak to win the nomination, and is posturing towards the left on the Iraq War.
Miami Dade voters just recently voted to give popular Mayor Carlos Alvarez broader new powers (strong mayor) over the county operation. However, considering the political climate in the county where the Mayor had significantly higher approval numbers than the County Commission -- the race's outcome was surprisingly close and actually came down to just a few hundred vote spread on Election Day. The anti-strong mayor campaign got off to a late start and that is evident in the absentee and early vote margins which overwhelmingly favored the strong mayor.
